Thittai Srinivasan Rajagopalan, from Kumbakkonam, started a company in 1909 that manufactured Pooja items like Sandalwood Powder and Rose Water. He started to trade under the trademark image of “Alilai Krishnan” which was Baby Krishna floating on a banyan leaf in the cosmic ocean and named his brand “Gokul”.
In 1960, TSR’s son, TR Kannan, launched a new company called T.S.R Co., Madras and launched a popular cosmetic brand called Gokul Santol. This ceramic wall hanging would have been distributed to retailers to display in shops where Gokul Santol was sold. A rare piece of Madras Memorabilia indeed.
