Lot 20
S. Nandagopal (1946 - 2017)
Estimate : 5,00,000 - 6,00,000
It is easy to be impatient with the existing order of things when the mind is not attuned to the delight of creative search where the eyes see more than what is merely obvious. To young Nanadagopal, nothing in the heritage seems to appear unimportant and everything suggest the possible realisation of the new and the contemporary.

To technique of the coppersmith which normally yields household utensils both utilitarian and artistic, is used by Nandagopal for the creation of his new sculptures. Welding is perhaps the only additional technical feature introduced other than the use of coloured enamels. The sculptures are usually not more than two or two and a half feet high. But the technique adopted is of a highly complicated nature involving the beating of the sheet-metal, piercing and the elaborate welding together if the separately shaped and prepared components. Copper lends itself admirably;y to this treatment. The resultant piece is one of elegance. The perforations and wirework make the sculpture light and transparent so to speak.

The silver plating of the finished work and tarnishing of the same after the introduction of the coloured enamels give the work an aspect fairly new in contemporary sculptures.'

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
