Lot essay

The Illustrated Weekly of India was an English-language weekly newsmagazine publication that was published first in 1880. For more than a century, the magazine was considered the foremost English-language publication in India. It was particularly known for its reproduction of art works by Indian artists and was one of the avenues available for the artists to take their art to a larger audience. Ceasing publication in 1993, this issue, with its reproduction of paintings by Shiavax Chavda, among others, is a collectible.
