Launched in March 1964 by The Times of India Publication, owned by Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd., Indrajal Comics went on to become a popular comic book brand in India until it stopped publishing in April 1990. Prevalent in the pre-Marvel and DC world, for almost three decades, Indrajal Comics were responsible for shaping the adventurous minds of young Indians.
Mandrake the Magician was a superhero character created by Lee Falk and first appeared in 1934. After Phantom, Mandrake was the most popular superhero character in India. He was known for using hypnotic techniques, superpowers and sci-fi tools to defeat the villain. Indrajal Comics published the first Mandrake comic book in 1967.
